Letter of Bharati Mukherjee

What Bharati Mukherjee, youngest daughter of Sri Satya Charan Lahiree Says about Dr.Ashoke Kumar Chatterjee.

I am the youngest daughter of household yogi, late Satyacharan lahiri, grandson of Yogiraj Sri Shamachurn Lahiree. I lost my mother when I was four years old. My father brought me up showering me with both paternal and maternal love. I obtained kriyoga initiation from my father in 1971. Therefore to me my father was father, mother and guru; all rolled into one. I got married in 1975 to Sri kailash Prasad mukherjee of Lucknow. Since then I became Bharati Mukherjee. My address is - 275MM, Sector-D, Aliganj, Lucknow-226020, India.

Generally after marriage a girl becomes involved in family matters, I also faced the same predicament, as a result my Kriya-Practice was hampered. Because of this I once wrote to my father that due to domestic pressures my Kriya practice is suffering now, later if I am able to practice and proceed further you will not be present, then to whom shall I go? Who will show me the path? To this my father giving me Dr.Ashoke kumar Chatterjee’s address replied- You will go to Ashoke. He is an elevated kriyaban. I have authorized him to impart kriya initiation from 1978.

I can say that I am thoroughly convinced that my father’s decision was absolutely correct. My father was immensely relieved to hand over the reins to Dr.Ashoke Kumar chatterjee, for he found in him a pillar of aptness. His discipline, strictness of principles, diligence, devotion, austerity, reverence, fixity of intent regarding Yogiraj and kriyayoga assured my father of his spiritual inclination to further the cause of Yogiraj and kriyayoga.

After my father’s demise I have maintained a regular relationship with Dr.Chatterjee through letter and visits to his Kolkata house. He has also often visited my Lucknow house. He had for a long period stayed with my father regarding the writing of “Purana Purusha” and apart from this he desiring to glean knowledge about my father more would come and stay with my father in Kashi. Many times my father while visiting Kolkata would stay in his house. My father harboured a deep affection for him.

I have contact with him for almost 25 years. He is a fulfilled household yogi. He is perpetually engaged in establishing the ideals, tenets regarding my Greatgrandfather, Yogiraj Sri Shama Churn Lahiree mahasaya-i.e. Juxtaposing domestic existence with sadhana life. Dr.Chatterjee is particular about the exactness of Kriyayoga which had been revived by my Greatgrandfather. I have always heard him discuss Shama Churn and he has impressed me with his intense reverence and devotion towards my Greatgrandfather and also my father. I have seen him discuss my father’s principles and abide by them also. Dr.Chatterjee pays special importance to the different steps of kriyayoga in accordance with the discipline set by Lahiree mahasaya. He is absolutely strict in this and averse to any deviation or digression. Regarding this he will not accept any compromise. He has inspired and constantly inspires his disciples towards the essence of Kriyayoga, I am a personal witness to this. The one who regularly practices kriya, he is Dr.Chatterjee’s most affectionate one. He expatiates, discusses, clarifies anything and everything relating to kriyayoga with his disciples. I have heard him repeatedly state-“I deeply love Yogiraj and his Kriyayoga, I shall depart doing the work of Yogiraj, because I know he is the creator, maintainer and Destroyer, thus Omnipresent”.

At my behest after my father’s demise, Dr Chatterjee has authored my father’s biography,”Satyaloke Satyacharan”. I have provided all the data known to me about my father which he has incorporated in this book whose English edition is about to be released. My elder sister Mrs.Pratima Acharya would regard Dr.Chatterjee as an elder brother, so we would call him Ashokeda. My father would love Ashokeda as his son. I have myself heard my father ask other kriyabans to keep contact with Ashokeda for their kriya’s progress. Most of my father’s disciples would call him Ashokeda. Seeing him progress in kriya my father initiated him from the 3rd till the 6th last step of kriya. He received his 1st and 2nd steps of kriya from Sri Annada Charan Sastri.

Mahasaya and Sundar lal Lalaji respectively. After granting Ashokada the permission to grant kriya initiation, many devotees residing in Kolkata or outside would write to my father expressing their desire to obtain kriya initiation. My father would direct all of them to Ashokeda writing to them thus- Obtaining initiation from Ashoke is the same as obtaining initiation from me. Many times when my father visited West Bengal, Ashokeda would always accompany him on his tours. When my father initiated devotees, Ashoke-da assisted my father. As my father was old, Ashokeda would explain the intricacies of kriyayoga to the devotees.

I have never seen Ashokeda perform any wrong action or say any lie. It is indeed rare to come across such an honest kriya-oriented diligent in sadhana and a Guru-obedient personality like him. Abiding by my father’s command he has authored several books on Sri Shama Churn Lahiree Mahasaya and kriyayoga including His Biography.

To uphold the ideals of Yogiraj Shama Churn Lahiree Mahasaya, he has established a stately temple in kakdwip, West Bengal. Kriyabans throughout the world assemble here. The temple was inaugurated on October 2, 1995, the auspicious day of the sublime Departure Centenary of Yogiraj Various illustrious personalities throughout the world, my husband and myself and many others were present during this plorious occasion. 100000 had devotees had assembled here on that day. Ashokeda had arranged for the food and lodging for all the devotees. On this day my husband Sri Kailash Prasad Mukherjee had released the book “Ke Ei Shama Charan” authored by Dr.Chatterjee. It’s English edition is awaiting Publication.

Seeing Ashokeda for a long period till now has led me as a progeny of the Lahiri ramity to comment that today there is a dearth of such a personality- Principled, righteous, intensely devoted to Lahiree Mahasaya as him, Since I have known him intimately for such a long span. I can assuringly state that anyone who can calumny or slander in his name is himself worthy of slander and is of a convoluted disposition.

I repeat further- the reverence, devotion and love he harbours for Yogiraj and my father is immeasurable. I pray that Ashokeda till the last days of his life being inspired by my father’s ideals upholds the ideals of Yogiraj to the masses and imparts welfare to humanity.
