Yogiraj Sri Shama Churn Lahiree is a Sublime Household Yogi of the 19th Century (1828-1895).
He arrived as a Human Being to revive Kriya yoga for the masses. Man could thus reach out to Him, express their joys
and sorrows, receive solace, hence be at one with Him.
The basic tenet of Kriya yoga which He advocated was to be a yogi, the best existence one could abide by was that of a householder. Therefore to set an example to mankind, He scrupulously remained within the family precincts and practised sadhana. Just as common man undergoes impediments in earthly existence, He caused many impediments upon Himself, yet practised austere sadhana and reached it's pinnacle within four years. Thus He remarkably juxtaposed family existence with all it's ups and downs and responsibilities with an austere sadhana regimen, which cannot be noticed in thousands of years.
His Kriya realizations penned by Himself in His 26 diaries provide to humanity the invaluable storehouse of knowledge and guidance.
He has laid tenets of Kriya yoga or Rajayoga that man, the supreme essence of all beings can through Kriya yoga reach the state of enlightenment, maximizing the full human potential to know God and to be One with Brahma. It certainly is not a difficult task but requires ardent diligent endeavours.
Further details of Yogiraj Sri Shama Churn Lahiree Mahasaya can be derived from the literary works of Yogacharya Dr. Ashoke Kumar Chatterjee.
